As the official airline of the USS Midway Museum, Southwest Airlines supports Midway’s mission to inspire, educate, and entertain visitors by helping Midway to deliver meaningful, memorable experiences.

Southwest Airlines is the naming sponsor of the Midway Flight Academy Lab where students learn the principles of flight during youth education and overnight programs.

The partnership also supports Midway’s commitment to community through sponsorship of the museum’s patriotic-themed special events like Legacy Week, the July 4th Family Celebration, and Midway’s Veterans Day Celebration.

Southwest Airlines has always had “heart” and a commitment to community.According to the airline’s values statement, “It’s about connecting people and championing communities because distance shouldn’t keep us from being neighbors.Whether in the air or on the ground, we believe community is more than a place – it’s at the heart of what brings us together.”

“Southwest is honored to partner with the USS Midway Museum to preserve a legacy of service for current and future generations,” said Kelly Knox, Southwest Airlines community outreach for California. “Patriotism runs deep at Southwest Airlines, and we are proud of all those who serve, especially the 9,800 active duty, reservists, veterans, and military spouses who are part of the Southwest family.

“Midway and Southwest Airlines are completely aligned in our objectives of providing an outstanding guest experience and as well as genuine commitment to service and the San Diego community,” said Craig Fisher, Midway’s director of partnership marketing.“Southwest Airlines also leads by example when it comes to civility, corporate kindness and caring.’”

Examples of Southwest Airlines’ commitment to caring and kindness during its 50 years include transporting orphaned and abandoned pets to the Helen Woodward Animal Center during Hurricane Harvey; ongoing support for the Honor Flight Program that transports U.S. veterans, free of charge, to Washington, D.C., to visit the nation’s war memorials; repurposing leather from airline seats to make closed-toe shoes, sandals, and soccer balls for kids in Kenya; and Southwest Airlines’ 50th anniversary initiative to inspire one million “Acts of Kindness” by encouraging employees, customers, partners, and friends to do little acts of kindness to more compassionate world.
