Greetings from the flight deck of Midway, where we are back in business and having a very busy summer. Our visitors are returning at a much higher rate than we projected, the school busses are showing up on the pier with students again visiting Midway and we’re starting to get busy booking after-hours special events throughout 2021 and into next year. Our 4th of July fireworks viewing party tickets sold out within the hour.
Rudder amidships, full speed ahead
All of this I pass along to our members and supporters as a validation of your faith and support during the COVID year of 2020. There were times during the pandemic when all of us wondered if we would ever return to normalcy. Our volunteers were staying home, much of our staff was impacted and Midway sat empty at Navy Pier.
While we were closed, you continued your support and we were able to finish the complete rebuilding of all three aircraft elevators and our new Café 41 is now open to the public. We are now in the early stages of rebuilding a leaner and more effectively organized staff to better support our increased attendance and operations as we move ahead.
If you haven’t been aboard in a while, I hope you’ll schedule a lunch at Café 41. I think you’ll be impressed with the quality of the food and service with our new partners. We have new furniture, and our fantail has been completely remodeled to make the dining experience on Midway the best it has ever been. Try the chicken tenders (best in America), order a burger with fries or enjoy a healthy salad aboard your ship. The menu is really terrific, and I know you’ll enjoy the selections.
This year is turning out much better than we forecast, and the future looks very bright. We will continue our focus on delivering a fun and engaging experience to all of our visitors, from ages 8 to 80, and look forward to building on our success in the years ahead with your support.
Onward and upward,
