Happy New Year to all our Midway Members. As we turn the page into a new year, I want to begin by thanking you for the extraordinary role you play in sustaining the USS Midway Museum. Your commitment goes well beyond access or benefits; it is an investment in preserving the stories, service and sacrifice embodied by this historic ship. As we enter 2026 together, I am energized by what lies ahead and deeply grateful to have you alongside us. For those of you potential new members, we enthusiastically invite you to explore joining us this year on the journey.
The first quarter is always a moment of renewed momentum, and this year is no exception. We’ve been hard at work crafting an exciting calendar of exclusive member experiences designed to bring you closer to Midway than ever before. In the coming months, you can look forward to a robust lineup of events from intimate behind-the-scenes tours and curator-led conversations to special receptions and legacy-focused programs that spotlight naval aviation, leadership and life at sea. These gatherings are not only opportunities to learn and connect, but also to celebrate the community that makes Midway thrive.
We recognize each of you has an important reason why you cherish and support Midway as a member. It’s been incredibly gratifying to meet many of you at the last few member events and hear your specific connection to and passion for this 80-year-old aircraft carrier. We’ll be reaching out to you throughout the year and asking you to share with us why you value being a member. In subsequent “Currents” this year look for us to share some of these stories with you.
One of the most meaningful milestones on the horizon is the upcoming opening of Midway’s new Prisoner of War exhibit. This powerful and thoughtfully curated space will honor the resilience, courage, and sacrifice of the Midway aviators who endured captivity during the Vietnam War. It is a moving addition to the museum, and one that underscores our mission to tell the full and complex stories of those who served.
As always, your membership helps make projects like this possible. From exhibit development and preservation work to educational programming that reaches students, veterans and visitors from around the world, your support has a lasting impact. You are partners in our mission, and we take that responsibility seriously.
